I am thankful for the dust on my floors, because it means I have floors to clean and a home to clean them in. I am thankful for the pain I feel in my big toe after hitting it on the cabinet this morning, because it means I am still alive. I am thankful.
I am thankful for my five beautiful daughters, who ALL come to me for advice (well the 5-month-old doesn’t yet, but she will!), because it means I can have the opportunity every day to be a good dad. I am thankful for my wonderful wife, who is in the glue that holds everything in our world together. I am thankful for my sisters and my little brother, who always supports me and encourage me to be all I can. I am thankful for my parents who trained me as a child, and encourage and inspire me as a man. I am thankful.
I am thankful for the relationships I have been able to establish, renew, and cultivate with family and close friends over the years, because it means I can look forward to the times when we will meet again. I am thankful.
I am thankful for the annoyingly noisy dishwasher I hear in the kitchen as I’m typing, because it means no one will have to wash the dishes by hand today. I am thankful for the simple things in life that are all free: the cool breeze from the autumn air; the pretty leaves falling like rain from the neighborhood trees; the shining sun letting me know that today is a bright new day; the impatient nudge from my little doggies this morning telling me it’s time for them to eat. I am thankful.
The list goes on of course, but I will keep this short. As you celebrate this day with family and friends, be thankful, and remember that others are less fortunate. Pray for those in need, and if there is a need you can meet, please meet it. From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful (Colossians 3:15, KJV).
What are you thankful for?
